Vulvadynia (vul-va-din’i-a) Chronic vulvar discomfort or pain, characterized by burning, stinging, irritation or rawness of the female genitalia.
Kathy, who is in her early 20’s, discovered that she had vulvadynia the night of her honeymoon. She described her symptoms as “having lots of burning with knife like pains during intercourse, and afterwards a burning sensation that lasts a couple of hours.” Because the experience is so uncomfortable, it has destroyed her libido.
Vulvadynia is a mysterious disease that conventional medicine has had little success in treating Kathy knows as she has tried numerous therapies including steroid shots, all to no avail.
In our initial interview, I told Kathy that I had never treated this particular problem but felt that homeopathy and acupuncture did offer some hope. Within two weeks of starting treatment she cautiously stated that she was doing 30% better. By the time we finished up the last acupuncture treatment she commented that she was able to have intercourse with no pain for the first time in her life! Today 8 months later she remains pain free.
