Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen chambers are devices that allow people to breathe in pure oxygen at a higher pressure than normal. During hyperbaric oxygen therapy often referred to as HBOT, patients breathe 100% oxygen while sitting inside a pressurized chamber. The increased oxygen pressure allows more oxygen to dissolve into the blood plasma, which then carries it to the body's tissues and organs. This enhanced oxygen delivery promotes healing, reduces inflammation, and supports various bodily functions. In an effort to provide state of the art therapies to our patients Renaissance Health Centre has recently purchase the OxyCell hyperbaric chamber that allows pressures to reach 2 ATA. The OxyPro Excel Chamber offers an unparalleled combination of comfort and advanced technology for hyperbaric therapy. Designed as a hard shell, with large double layered aircraft grade windows on both sides of the chamber to provide ambient light, visibility and claustrophobia-free comfort. The large transparent door allows easy entry/exit and visibility. This sitting-type chamber which includes red light therapy is made from high-quality stainless steel and aviation grade polycarbonate materials, to ensure performance, safety and durability. Today research is revealing many of positive physiological effect of why HBOT is beneficial. Below are listed a few of the scientifically proven benefits:
Neurological
HBOT has shown promise in treating neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and cerebral palsy. The increased oxygen supply to the brain can support recovery of brain function and improve cognitive abilities.
Reduced Inflammation
Chronic inflammation is a common underlying factor in many diseases. HBOT’s anti-inflammatory effects help manage and reduce chronic inflammation, supporting long-term health. Enhanced Healing & Recovery From surgical wounds to chronic injuries, HBOT accelerates the healing process. It supports tissue repair, reduces scarring, and improves recovery outcomes.
Wellness & Longevity
HBOT has been linked to anti-aging benefits, including improved skin health, reduced appearance of wrinkles, and overall enhanced vitality. The therapy’s ability to lengthen telomeres is a key factor in its anti-aging effects.
Cardiovascular
By improving oxygenation and reducing inflammation, HBOT can
benefit those with cardiovascular conditions. It enhances blood flow, supports heart health, and helps in the recovery from heart attacks and other cardiac events. Immune System HBOT strengthens the immune system by promoting the production and function of white blood cells. This enhances the body’s ability to fight infections and recover from illnesses.
Musculoskeletal
Athletes and individuals with musculoskeletal injuries benefit from HBOT through faster recovery times, reduced pain, and decreased swelling, supporting healing of bones, muscles, and joints.
In the past five to ten years, interest has shifted from FDA-approved life threatening indications to ‘off label’ uses which target chronic issues that affects patient’s quality of life and functionality.
