True Stories – How Acupuncture Transformed a Busy Mom’s Life

All she wanted to do was help her kids during concert season. But her chronic fatigue and excruciating leg pain were causing her to feel discouraged and worn down. When she walked up the stairs in her home, the 46-year-old mother of 3 felt like her quads were being ripped from her bones. How could she even consider volunteering when she could not rely on her body to do the essentials like going to the grocery store?

Recovering from a double mastectomy due to cancer  5 years ago, she felt like a mess. However, the cancer was not totally the cause of her current condition as she began her downward spiral of pain  3 years prior. This was a period of  time when she was very busy carpooling her children. Now it seemed that her body was stuck in this chronic stress mode all the time, despite her efforts to wind down.

At her initial acupuncture visit, this patient described that she had approximately 40% of her energy stores working properly. She mentioned that the pain level in her legs were excruciatingly high at 8 on a scale of 10 in intensity. Two months before the start of her kids concerts she began acupuncture treatment.

The main imbalance the patient was having was Liver Qi stagnation and Stomach Yin deficiency. She had neglected to take care of herself by nourishing her body properly while meeting the demands of her “Mom Taxi” job. Even though she had been dealing with many of her pain symptoms for over 8 years she reported a dramatic increase in her energy level, rating it at a 9/10 (10 being the best).  In addition, her leg pain dropped to a 1/10 in just two short months of acupuncture treatment. She was ecstatic with her improvement as she commented, “I could not believe how good I felt standing, walking, and hefting things around while I was helping with the performance preparation. Even my recovery was amazingly fast. In times past it would have taken me three to four days to recover from much less exertion.”

Whereas before going grocery shopping was a chore, now she will jog into the store, bustling about her busy life enjoying the vitality of her body and the beautiful music of her children in concert performances. Welcome back to life!
