I have always said that it is better to have a physical illness than a mental illness. Mental illness such as depression and anxiety can have such a profound influence on your day to day life. So often we take for granted getting up in the morning and being motivated to go out and accomplish our task and to envision and start new projects. For many people, they wake up and have to literally will themselves to get anything accomplished. It is almost impossible to start new projects as there is no aspiration or desires deep within.
Mark who is in his mid 40’s had physical complaints, but his worst symptom was depression. This depression started in 1966 following an anaphylactic reaction to an antibiotic where he almost died. Despite being on Effexor, almost every evening he states, “I find that I am suicidal, lonely and have overwhelming sadness. It is as though you are in a pit surrounded by darkness. Sometimes you can see the light shining at the top and sometimes you can be partly up leaning over into the earth and be a part of what is going on. But if I look back I will be drawn back into the pit.”
I tried treating Mark with a homeopathic remedy and some acupuncture which did help with his physical symptoms but had no impact on his emotional state. So I placed him on a nutritional product that stimulates the production of serotonin within the brain. Almost immediately he saw a dramatic shift in his frame of mind to where he felt a sense of calm, clear thoughts, less paranoid thoughts and no suicidal thoughts. He found that he was able to come out of this “pit of darkness” and interact with people.
By simply adding some amino acids and vitamins to Mark’s diet he was able to experience greater freedom and happiness than he had felt in decades.
